Throughout history, mankind has searched for the secret of eternal youth. But only scientists from Stanford University may have gotten a step closer to the desired. Recently a team of researchers announced that they managed to rejuvenate human cells using the mechanism used to create stem cells. The results showed that the method is designed to reverse the copy error of the DNA and cells to restore youthful, really eliminates the signs of aging and restores cellular energy. Scientists hope that in the future the developed method will help in the treatment of diseases caused by aging of tissue cells. What is the Yamanaka factors?
Rejuvenated cells was possible with the help of the Yamanaka factors – proteins that normally turn cells into stem cells. Moreover, as the authors of the study, the Yamanaka factors play an important role in the establishment of embryonic cells.
The procedure of rejuvenating the cells was the elimination of the negative factors that occur with aging of the body. During the work published in the journal Nature Communications, the use of Yamanaka factors allowed the scientists to reverse the weakening of the cellular systems, which occurs with aging. As writes The New York Timesin 2006 Signa Yamanaka, stem-cell researcher from Kyoto University (Japan), has struck biologists, demonstrating that the fate of the cells can be changed by using the set of four transcription factors, agents that activate the genes that determined scientist. In the new work, scientists from Stanford University have described a possible method of delivery of Yamanaka factors in cells taken from patients. The authors argue that the dosage of the cells by the Yamanaka factors during the short period of time, the cells preserve their identity and return to youthful state. In the course of work, scientists have removed the old cartilage cells of patients with osteoarthritis and found that after low doses of Yamanaka factors cells no longer secrete inflammatory factors that trigger the disease.
