As unreliable place affects the character of a person?

Are you sure that will work on the current job in a year, or you can dismiss? Australian scientists recently discovered that if a person works on a temporary contract, part-time, or simply unreliable in the company for a few years he can become a completely different person. The fact that these people more often than others experience anxiety and a long stay in a stressful condition. As a result, they begin to treat others with great mistrust and overall changing their Outlook and character. Ultimately they have reduced working capacity, due to which the risk of dismissal on the contrary increases. Besides, such people may have problems in his personal life.

All this was recently written in an article published in the scientific journal Journal of Applied Psychology. A team of scientists under the direction of Lena Wang analyzed data on 1046 the workers of different fields, covering a nine year period of time. Information was collected as part of the HILDA survey, which studied the Australian labour market and the financial well-being of local residents. According to the researchers, many people do not even suspect that the uncertainty about the stability of their work harms their health and gradually change their character and attitude to life.

What changes a person’s character?

To determine the nature of each study participant and their relationship to other people, the researchers identified the level of five personal qualities that in one way or another present in every human being. This is a model that reflects the relationship of man to other people, better known as the Big five and includes five personality traits:

  • neuroticism, in which a person has low self-esteem and high anxiety;
  • extraversion, characterized by the activity and sociability of a person;
  • openness to the new experience ofbeing lyubopitnost and creative approach to tasks;
  • benevolence, in which man trusts the people and is open to cooperation;
  • integrity, which involves attention to detail and concentration.

Examining the data of the volunteers and their personality traits in different periods of time, scientists made a very interesting discovery. It turned out that the previously friendly and honest people, after four years of anxiety for his work, ceased to trust people and work with less impact and concentration.

Scientists believe this unexpected discovery, because it would be logical to assume that the risk of losing their jobs people will be the opposite to work better, to avoid being fired. But in fact alarmed by their precarious situation, the employees on the contrary lose interest and begin to communicate less with colleagues and to support them. Because of this, the workplace can cause serious problems, therefore, employers is extremely important to know about possible risks.
