NASA dismissed one of the leaders of the lunar program

The Deputy head of the space Agency NASA in developing lunar projects mark Sirangelo, appointed to this position just a few weeks ago (in April), was dismissed and is currently losing business, the press service of the Minister with reference to the statement by the Director of NASA’s Bridenstine.

In the words of Bridenstine, the U.S. Congress refused to approve the proposal of space Agency on the reorganization of the American space Agency with the aim of creating special units, which were engaged in the preparation of expeditions to the moon. As pointed out by the head of NASA, this was one of the reasons for the dismissal of Sirangelo because his services the Agency no longer needs.

“Inside the Directorate of space exploration by man and manned space flight NASA at the moment, there were organizational changes that will maximize the effectiveness of training of the crew of men and women landing on the moon in 2024. Given that the establishment of a special unit to control the lunar programs aerospace Agency does not require, mark Sirangelo decided to look for other opportunities,” commented, Breidenstein.

The moon in 2024

In turn, the development of the lunar program NASA “Artemis” continues. Recently the US President Donald trump said that the Agency for the development of the moon and Mars will be allocated additional funding of $ 1.6 billion. According to current plans, the United States intends to land on the moon in 2024 and to Mars in the mid 2030-ies.

Recently, NASA chose the first contractor for the construction of a lunar space station Deep Space Gateway. Involved in development of space technologies company Maxar Technologies will receive from the Agency a grant in the amount of 375 million dollars to build a power plant and communications equipment for mobile command and service module.

Maxar Technologies will develop the installation, which is a rocket ship with a capacity of 50 kW and runs on solar energy. According to the contract, within 12 months, the company undertakes to complete the design of the spacecraft. Over the next 26 months the company needs to build the module. NASA hopes to send a force element to orbit the moon at the end of 2022. In the year following this run will be demonstration flights of the ship, who all this time will belong to Maxar Technologies. After this period, NASA will be able to buy it for use as the first element of the station.
