The Agency explained that in this way during the mission on the asteroid is planned to create an artificial crater, and then try to collect samples of rocks hiding in the depths of the space object.

In a collision with a cosmic body, the shell should create a crater with a diameter of several meters. For shooting the process of surgery will be responsible to set the automatic camera apparatus that is separated from the space probe. Himself “Hayabusa-2” during the experiment will be moved to the other side of the asteroid, in order not to get hurt during the shot.

The creation of the crater must bare rock, which, experts believe Agency JAXA has remained intact since the formation of the Solar system and may contain information that will help to better understand the history of the formation of the planetary group of our system. Sometime in may the unit “Hayabusa-2” will try to make the second closer to the surface of the asteroid to collect samples of this species.

The mission of “Hayabusa-2” was launched in December 2014. Near-earth asteroid Ryugu, which belongs to the group of Apollo (their orbits cross earth’s orbit on the outer side), a space probe reached in June 2018. In the autumn of that year, the unit has landed on the Ryugu three lander: two “jumper” Rover-Rover 1A and-1B and one stationary 10-kg MASCOT module developed by the German aerospace center.

It is planned that the orbit of the asteroid “Hayabusa-2” will stay until November-December of this year, and then travel back to Earth. Return home with samples of the asteroid probe is scheduled in December 2020.
